The International Conference on Health, Environment, Education and Research (CHEER2024) and the 10th International Conference on Water Resources and Environment (WRE2024) were organised by The Hong Kong University of Education (HKUEd) and took place from 16-18 December 2024 at the Tai Po Campus of HKUEd.The conferences were under the joint guidance of Mr. Hong Lumin, Vice Dean of the School of Social and Humanities, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, Mr. Huang Guangwei, Dean of Graduate School of Geo-Environmental Studies, Sophia University, and Mr. Tsang Yiu-fai, Dean of Graduate Studies, The Hong Kong University of Education. Our 24th year social work graduate students, Liu Jingzhen and Xiong Yicheng, travelled to Hong Kong with students from Sophia University to participate in this international academic exchange activity. The initiative aims to encourage dialogue and exchange between Chinese and Japanese students, share research outcomes and perspectives, and explore cutting-edge research in water resources and human health. This will enhance mutual learning and understanding between the academic communities of China and Japan, fostering deeper cultural exchange.

opening ceremony of the conference
On 16 December, students from our institution and Sophia University attended the CHEER2024 conference. There, they heard the latest research findings in environmental protection and education from scholars from a range of different countries. The agenda covered: "Current Status of Organic Pollutants and Mechanisms for Their Management," "Research on Sustainable Valuation of Waste Pollutants," and "Exploration of Effective Ways to Turn Waste into Valuable Resources." Student groups participated in the dialogues, proposing new insights and opinions based on their studies. This demonstrated the enthusiasm and sense of responsibility of the young generation for solving global environmental problems. Through exchanges, student groups promoted cross-cultural understanding and cooperation, and contributed to the development of the field of environmental protection.

On 17 December, Professor Guangwei Huang of the Graduate School of Geo-Environmental Sciences at Sophia University delivered a presentation entitled "Long-term Diagnosis of Environmental Changes in Shallow Lakes" at the WRE2024 conference. Prof. Huang expounded in meticulous detail on the responses and challenges encountered by various stakeholders in the context of long-term environmental monitoring in shallow lakes. He further explored the conceptualisation of a novel wetland conservation mechanism theory. Subsequent to the presentation, an in-depth exchange ensued between our students and those from Sophia University, delving into the intricacies of data acquisition through field surveys and the identification of effective methodologies to address these challenges. This discourse aimed to furnish insights that would inform future research endeavours focused on sustainability.

Following the Closing Ceremony on 18 December, the student group embarked on a journey to experience the cultural atmosphere of Hong Kong. They traversed the bustling Central District and ascended the picturesque Peak. At this location, the students recorded the night view of Victoria Harbour, which they found to be stunning, and took in the magnificent scenery on both sides of Hong Kong. The students were able to experience the unique charm of Hong Kong's fusion of 5,000 years of Chinese civilisation and foreign cultures, and expressed their admiration for Hong Kong's economic achievements and cultural inclusiveness.

As early as June 2023, the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics held a tripartite meeting with Sophia University of Japan and The Hong Kong University of Education on international exchange and cooperation. This meeting was a great success. The academic trip, which involved students from the two countries, not only provided an opportunity for them to experience the cultural background and academic atmosphere of different countries, but also served to enhance their cross-cultural communication skills. Furthermore, it laid a solid foundation for deeper international exchange and cooperation among the three universities in the future, thereby contributing to the realisation of the university's "internationalisation" and "greening" goals.
